The SJSU-SLIS graduation and commencement ceremonies are one of the most exciting events for LISSTEN members as well as graduates. Graduation provides an opportunity for those of us still in the program to look ahead with excitement to the completion of our MLIS while witnessing fellow students being awarded their degrees.

Commencement ceremonies typically take place during the last Sunday in May at Hope International University Pacific Auditorium, 2500 Nutwood Ave. Fullerton, CA 92831 (directly across from CSU Fullerton’s campus). A reception at Hope International University follows Commencement, in which all SJSU-SLIS graduates and guests are welcome to attend.

LISSTEN pays and makes arrangements for the music, photographer, and podium flowers. Additionally, LISSTEN’s Graduation Committee provides 8 volunteers to plan the event and coordinate the day’s events. SJSU-SLIS covers the Pacific Auditorium rental, catering for the reception, and guest speakers.

In addition to being a part of this inspiring day, chairing or serving as a volunteer on LISSTEN’s Graduation Committee provides SJSU-SLIS students the opportunity to acquire teamwork, leadership, and event planning skills that will enhance any resume!

As all students are automatically LISSTEN members upon acceptance into SJSU-SLIS’ program, all are welcome to apply to serve on LISSTEN’s Graduation Committee.
