LISSTEN

As students enrolled in San Jose State University’s School of Library and Information Science program, you are members of LISSTEN (Library and Information Science Students to Encourage Networking), and the faculty and staff of our program are considered associate members. LISSTEN board members are elected annually by students and faculty.

Members of LISSTEN are welcome and encouraged to attend Board Meetings, serve on event committees, and participate as fully as possible in LISSTEN activities. This is your student organization. Solicitations for participation are posted on the listserv and this web site throughout the year. If you would like more information on the various committees, join a committee, or run for election next fall, please contact LISSTEN's :: president :: or :: faculty advisor ::.

LISSTEN's Mission

LISSTEN seeks to enhance the educational experiences of students in the Program; address members' concerns; promote professionalism; and provide networking opportunities. Established in 1993, LISSTEN is an association serving students in San José State University’s School of Library and Information Science. All students in SJSU’s SLIS are members of LISSTEN, with no dues required. Each year, the association sponsors events to encourage SLIS students as they prepare to launch or continue careers.

LISSTEN's Purpose

• To serve as a channel of communication in resolving concerns between students, faculty, and administration. Any questions, comments, or concerns relating to student matters are welcomed.
• To sponsor activities of interest to LISSTEN members.

Means of Communication

• Web Site:  LISSTEN posts information about upcoming events, fundraisers, board members, and meetings on this web site. An online version of the :: Student Survival Handbook :: is also available.
• Call Number:  The :: Call Number :: is a student newsletter produced 3 times a year (August, November, and February) by the LISSTEN board. It includes faculty member profiles, lists upcoming events, and contains articles that relate to your education and career.
• Fundraisers: :: Fundraisers :: throughout the year include t-shirt sales, the money raised provides orientation food, speaker baskets and most importantly helps enhance your graduation experience. Help support your educational future by supporting us.

LISSTEN-Sponsored Events

Throughout the year, LISSTEN organizes a variety of activities to benefit students in the program, including: student orientation, workshops and lectures, field trips, career fairs, and graduation activities. Check the calendar at left for a list of upcoming LISSTEN-sponsored events.

LISSTEN Student Survival Handbook

LISSTEN has prepared a :: student handbook :: to assist students in negotiating the SLIS program at Fullerton. It provides useful information on registration, SLIS/CSUF services, professional organizations, and parking. The Survival Guide is available online, and hard copies are available in room PLS 69.
