COLEEN WAKAI, President [[email protected]] This is my first semester into SJSU Library and Information Science. After 28 years as a dental hygienist, took a bad fall and lost part of my right elbow...so I'm back in school for a second career and enjoying all the information. It's challenging at my age to be back in school; although I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to be a student at SJSU. I graduated from CSUF Spring of 2006, Asian American Studies Major, BA Humanities Ethnic Studies. I am learning how to knit, love crafts doing anything with my hands. Enjoy people.
ERIC BRYAN, VP SCUF [[email protected]] This is Eric's first year in the MLIS program. He has aspired to become a librarian since he was 12 years of age and first visited the Huntington Library. Upon graduation, Eric plans to pursue a career in special collections and digitization. A fluent German speaker, Eric hopes to one day study in Germany to round out his education. Eric is very excited to be a part of the LISSTEN team.
BRENDA WELCH, VP SJ [[email protected]] Brenda Welch is currently the Historian for LISSTEN. Brenda is interested in documenting the changes being made in the organization this year and as a Northern California based student, Brenda is very excited to work on building LISSTEN as a student organization on the SJSU campus. Brenda plans to graduate in Spring 2008 and work as a reference librarian in an academic library. Brenda currently resides in the city of Richmond, CA.
HEATHER FUCINARI, Secretary [[email protected]] I am a first semester MLIS student on the archival track. Shortly after obtaining my BA in Telecommunications (Media Arts) and Film Specialization from Michigan State University I hopped in my car and drove out to Hollywood for film.  Currently I am an IT Business Analyst for an insurance company.  I am very interested in digitization and media preservation and wish to someday work in a moving image archive.  I love to learn new skills in my spare time from new languages to archery.
BRENDA RAMIREZ, Treasurer [[email protected]] I am approaching the halfway mark in the SLIS Program. Originally from Los Angeles, I now reside in Corona, CA. I've earned a B.A. in Liberal Studies from CSULB, and a Multiple Subject and a Bilingual teaching credential. Currently, I am a teacher as well as a substitute Reference Librarian. After obtaining my MLIS, I would like to continue working in an environment in which I can best use my Spanish language skills. I love watching Oprah or participating in anything related to the arts, especially listening music and dancing salsa.
BEVERLY McLEOD, Newsletter Editor [[email protected]] I grew up in L.A., but was bitten by the wanderlust bug in college, and have lived in Japan, Thailand, Iran, Hawaii, and Santa Cruz before settling in San Jose, where I live with my husband of nearly 25 years and our teenage son. The MLIS, which I hope to receive in May 2008, will be my 5th graduate degree--I enjoy traveling and learning new things! In June I became the Associate Library & Information Resources Manager at NASA Ames, a job I was offered as a result of my SLIS internship there. This is my second year editing The Call Number.
SHARON MARCACCI, Newsletter Co-editor [[email protected]] I am starting the "home stretch" of the MLIS program, and expect to graduate the end of Spring semester '08. I live in Campbell (near San Jose), and live with my husband (we just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary) and two beagles. My daughter lives in the area, and my son just finished his freshman year at UCSD. I am excited about being part of the LISSTEN board and hope to attend many events this year.
VLASTA RADAN, Webmaster [xxxxx@ xxxx.org] I was born in Zagreb, a place far, far away. Before moving to Riverside, CA, I sweltered in swamps of Northern Virginia, where I got my degree in the Art and History of Bookmaking. It started as a study of graphic design, but I got sidetracked by Dart Hunter, papermaking and history of books. I enrolled in the SLIS program thinking of academic libraries, but along the way I got caught in the web of the Internet, and finally decided to specialize in archives and digitalization. One more semester to go...
