The following statement and submitted evidence show my competency in applying the fundamental principles of planning, management and marketing/advocacy.

Statement of Competency D

Before coming to the United States, I worked in a company that, among other things, organized seminars. We did not choose the subject of a seminar, but were responsible for the organization – finding and negotiating the space for the lectures and accommodation for the participants, bringing everybody in, keeping everybody happy for duration of the seminar and then seeing them all safely off.... Evidence 1 :: Strategic Plan for Crossroads Library at Caroline Victoria High School

This paper was a group project written as an assignment in the Information Organization and Management class, Spring of 2005, and shows my competency in applying the basic principles of project planning and organization.

The strategic plan for the fictitious high school media library was based on real life statistics and information about the southern California school environment and demographics. The paper outlines the basic numbers for the school district in which the new school and its media library will operate, states the mission of the future school and its basic goals and objectives. The draft of the budget and organization chart was submitted as appendixes to the introductory part of the paper. The reminder of the study deals with the management style that the new library management will practice, staffing projections, schedules and specific duties for specific library positions. The plan also estimates space, furniture, books and other media equipment as well as reference and database resources necessary for the adequate functioning of the library. The strategic plan provides demographics and environment in which the library will operate. At the end of the paper, the group provided information about the sources of the information on which they based their strategic planning and a description of the cooperative process.

Evidence 2 :: Why management for results or performance is essential in current library environments [PDF]

This essay was written as an assignment in the Information Organization and Management class, Spring of 2005, and shows my understanding of basic principles of management.

The majority of the libraries in the United States are funded by local tax revenue and therefore are directly dependent on local economic trends and fortunes. As financial resources tighten, libraries are required to utilize given financial resources with increased efficiency. With current trends toward an "ownership society" and the privatization of public services, libraries are put in the position to operate like every other company on the open market. The essay argues, that taking into account the nature of the library business, two most important managerial tools that libraries should adopt are careful attention to a communication and efficient financial management. Good communications inside and outside a company is not only good public relations, but also a tool that provides employees with the process that enables them to express their grievances that hamper their willingness to perform as well as enable them to introduce the innovations into the process. The forging of a support network of connections and alliances with other libraries and their managers and employees could become crucial for the smooth daily operation like interlibrary loans as well as joint programs. Applying various aspects of the efficient financial management, like, for example, establishing the standards, tracking the budget, or creating the financial indicators, could result with significant saving in the operation of the library.

Evidence 3 :: Vlasta's Bookbinding Co.

This web site developed as the final project for the Introduction to Dreamweaver class, taken at the Riverside Community College, Spring of 2006, shows my competency in use of basic principles of professional marketing.

The web site simulates a small company web site that markets its products on the Internet. The home page presents what the company does and what services and products are offered to customers. The product page shows a sample catalog of company products. Different views and more details about individual product could be viewed in separate windows by clicking on the "more details" link. The order page has standard form which enables customers to order their desired products. In normal circumstances, this form would feed into the company database, but in the example, submission of the form triggers only the confirmation-of-the-order page. The web site also features the page with a Java script based slide show of the bookbinding process.
