Evidence 1 :: Archival Practicum Log: Special Collections Department, University of California, Riverside
This web site was created as during my archival internship in the Special Collections Department of University of California Riverside, Spring of 2007, and shows my competency in use of concepts and principles related to the creation, evaluation, preservation and organization of specific items or collections of information.
The main goal of the internship was to explore the various issues related to processing archival collections, preservation of library material, and public access and use of resources of special collections. The web site was developed as an internship log, detailing weekly activities through the text and images: processing of the Anne McCaffrey Papers collection, the practices and techniques of repairing and conservation of library material in the Preservation Services Department of UCR libraries, and activities in a printshop. The web site also pulls together all documents related to the internship and learning outcomes.
Evidence 2 :: The County of Gornja Stubica Archives Collection Policies and Manuscript collection of The Museum of clock towers of the United States [PDF]
This exercise in creation of collection policies and organizational structure for imaginary institutions was written as an assignment in the Archives and Manuscripts class, Fall of 2005, and shows my understanding of the basic concepts and principles of selection and acquisition of specific items or collections of information.
Collection policies of the Archives of the County of Gornja Stubica are written an example of policies for a record repository. They define the purpose of the county archives, list laws that determine scope of policies, define offices and county positions from which records will be collected, as well as the type of material that will be collected. They define the positions that are responsible for the retention of various materials and the ways of cooperation with the county archivist.
The collection policies of the manuscript collection of the Museum of Clock Towers of the United States defines the scope of the museum and its collections, and, inside that mission, the purpose and collecting policies of the manuscript collections. The policies detail the type of material and the ways documents can be included into collections as well as the type of material that will not be collected and will be referred to other departments in the museum.
Evidence 3 :: Copyright Research Assignment [PDF]
This paper about copyright issues was written as an assignment in the Digitalization and Digital Preservation class, Spring of 2006, and shows my understanding of the basic concepts and principles of evaluation and selection of specific items or collections of information.
In this short exercise, students were presented with three copyright cases that may come up during the preparation stages of a digitalization project. The first case was a group of personal letters between two parties, both deceased, which describe their outing with a group of friends. The second case was a book published before 1871, and the third an undated photograph of known person, now deceased. The answer to each issue considers the relevant copyright laws and then weighs arguments for or against digitalizing the particular item.
